Your Coach
Transformational coaching is all about you, not me. Therefore, this is the only section where I use the “I” pronoun instead of “we”, and where I will tell you a little bit about myself, so you know who will be coaching you.
My name is Arvid Schigt. I was born in April 1980 in the Netherlands. I qualified as a doctor in 2008, finished emergency medicine training in Amsterdam in 2016, and have worked abroad ever since. One-and-a-half years prehospital and in the emergency department in Bangor, North-Wales, which was an excellent stepping stone to a two-year period of critical care and retrieval medicine with the Royal Flying Doctor Service in rural and remote New South Wales, Australia.
Since September 2020 I have been living on the Isle of Lewis in the Outer Hebrides, Scotland, where I work in a small, but great emergency department.
I did my first coaching training in 2023 and qualified in 2024. In 2023 I started the British Society of Lifestyle Medicine core accreditation programme and completed this in August 2025 which makes me a Certified Lifestyle Medicine Practitioner (internationally recognised and accredited by both the World Lifestyle Medicine Organisation (WLMO) and European Lifestyle Medicine Council (ELMC)). Following this, I have done additional courses to obtain more knowledge and skills specifically directed at coaching, or at aspects of Lifestyle Medicine, such as nutrition and sleep for example.
This all accumulated in 2025 to accreditation by and registration with the UK & International Health Coaching Association (UKIHCA): the global self-regulatory body for health and wellness coaching. This accreditation ensures that our practice aligns with the UKIHCA Scope of Practice and the highest standards of evidence-based, person-centred coaching.
Coaching allows me to combine working with people, enhancing their health, and utilising my creativity. My approach combines curiosity, compassion, and evidence-based principles to help you create lasting change in a way that fits your life.
I noticed quite soon already that a coaching session can leave me with as much joy, fulfillment, and “stoke” as a surf session does. Even beyond the next day!

Logo Explained
Stage 4 refers to the fourth stage within the Cycle of Change. If you are wishing to transform your lifestyle, then visiting this website is part of the third stage (preparation), which has followed the two previous stages (pre-contemplation and contemplation). The fourth stage is “action”, which precedes stage five (maintenance) and the final stage (success vs relapse).
The action arrow is highlighted in orange because it refers to my Dutch roots.
The heart refers to the focus on Lifestyle Medicine and health. It is blue because it matches the colour of my personality and reflects my passion for waves and surfing.
